First Breath

Once upon I climbed the sky
A dream of seven upon my eye
Lambeth mud
Living stars amid the leaves
Light in my hope chest
A sea beneath her skin
Unborn, sixteen
I waited for first breath
Then again for maturity
Old sevens, dried mud
Faces in sand and stone
Garden grown
If love be true
In patience
Every open eye
Gleaming like my lover's regret
His finest hour
She loves, my love
Because of you
She does not lie
